What is a Cloud Stack?


This document will help you understand the function and purpose of a cloud stack. The links and information below will help you gain a better understanding of what a cloud stack is and why it is important.

Cloud Stacks Defined


A cloud stack is a collection of services and resources in your Amazon Web Services (AWS) account which holds all of the infrastructure needed to run your Moodle site. A stack commonly consists of:

  • security groups

  • network file system

  • EC2 web server instance

  • RDS database instance

  • load balancer

  • TLS (SSL) security certificates

There can be more services and resources added to any given stack, so the list above is simply a basic list for an average stack.
